Thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. It is found in the neck just below to the thyroid cartilage which is scientifically also called as Adam’s Apple. It measures about 2 inches (5cm). Its main function is to secrete hormones that control how rapidly your body utilizes energy. Thyroid hormones are essentially required to regulate body energy. The body uses other hormones and vitamins, for the maturation of body tissues.
The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormones, namely triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Both of these hormones help in regulating the metabolism rate and affects rate and growth of many other systems in the body. (more…)
